STEERING CIRCLE

Led by a team of dedicated community members and guiding teacher Chas DiCapua, The Steering Circle endeavors to care for and grow our vibrant Open Door Meditation Community.

We are currently welcoming new volunteers to join us in this important work. Your efforts to help us care for our community will be met with deep appreciation and respect.

We encourage you to learn about our committees below and feel free to reach out to a facilitator for more information.

COMMITTEES

Communications

We oversee all aspects of outreach, publicity, and communication with members of the Open Door Meditation Community and the broader public. Committee members manage the website (opendoorportland.org), the Mail-Chimp mailing list (linked to the web site), and social media platforms.

The committee will follow up with new people and connect potential volunteers (from surveys and emails) with other committees.

Program & Logistics

We support Open Door Meditation Community’s teachers, coordinate needed facilitators and zoom hosts at ODMC gatherings, and coordinate retreats and other activities as needed by the Open Door community.

This committee will actively pursue and oversee the details of a meeting space including room setup and tech coordination.

Finance

We identify Open Door Meditation Community activities that will require monetary expenditures and secure estimates for those goods and services. We also identify methods to acquire the funds needed to finance expenditures to share with the Open Door steering committee.

The committee oversees such activities as budget creation, opening a bank account, securing state recognition and federal Tax ID numbers, and applying for non-profit status.

Finally, the committee identifies and implements a payment system on the Open Door website to make it easy for Open Door community members to offer Dana for teachers, donate directly to support ODMC operations, or pay for special events.
